Technique Page - Multiple Flash

What is it? Multiple Flash is used in the studio; the flash is left on for a few shots to create one final image. Usually used to capture movement or an event/sequence in one single image.

Step 1: Set up the studio for your shoot - the Multiple Flash technique works best with a black background. The lighting has to be completely blocked off from the background so that you are shooting in pitch black.
Step 2: Format the camera.
Step 3: Set the camera to the 'B' shutter speed for 'bulb'. Organise your model/subject and ensure you know the movements before turning off all the lights. Hold down the shutter release button and then manually click the flash each time you want to add a level/movement to the image. After about 3-4 individual flashes, release the shutter and the photo will be complete. More than 3-4 flashes will makes the images paler and whiter, making them harder to see.
