Multiple Exposure is about the superimposition of two or more exposures to create a single image.
The use of the multiple exposure technique creates really artistic designs which almost resemble pieces of art. I like the idea of using multiple exposure in my own work because they combine different shapes to create intricate patterns and designs, like in the last image of the hands moving. I also think that the use of multiple exposure allows the depth of certain colours to be drawn out more, making them look more vivid and visually interesting.
The multiple exposure technique looks particularly effective on a blank background, such as the middle two images, because other techniques can be used to shape and manipulate the actual image, making them look like real, physical objects. Multiple exposure with a blank background also looks effective because it creates the idea of a piece of art - the colours stand out more and the transparency in the layers create jagged shapes which create visually interesting patterns.
Multiple exposure will also prove to be an effective technique for me to use when I conduct my contrasts project. For example, I really like the bottom left image combining the human and the cat faces. I could use this idea to contrast the behaviors of the human world and the animal kingdom. This will look particularly effective as the way the two images blend together it appears to create a unique hybrid creature which could be seen in a very artistic way. Whilst researching this particular technique, one of the most common styles I discovered was the human portrait style like in the middle right image, where natural objects and textures like flowers and leaves are used to create the image of the human. I think that this will look really effective if I take something completely un-natural and combine it with nature's finest to create really artistic photos. This would also work well with pictures of people because I can demonstrate perhaps how society has changed to take advantage of the nature around us (people who are in-tune with nature and those who are not).
